Local university honours Indian business titan and arts champion, Sunil Kant Munjal

Birmingham City University (BCU) has awarded an honorary doctorate to Sunil Kant Munjal, a leading Indian business figure, philanthropist, and arts supporter, during a special ceremony held in the prestigious Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Mr. Munjal, a key figure in one of India’s largest and most respected business families, has helped grow the Hero Group into a global powerhouse in bicycles, motorbikes, and many other industries.

Mr. Munjal’s has also made major contributions to education, healthcare, and the arts. He founded BML Munjal University in memory of his father, leads a medical college and hospital in India, and is the driving force behind the Serendipity Arts Festival—India’s largest arts festival.

In partnership with BCU, Birmingham is currently hosting a mini edition of the Serendipity Arts Festival this bank holiday weekend- the first time the event has taken place outside of India.

The festival is a vibrant celebration of South Asian arts, music, dance and culture, showcasing an eclectic mix of performances, workshops, film screenings and exhibitions.

Professor David Mba, Vice-Chancellor of Birmingham City University, praised Mr. Munjal’s inspiring work across sectors: “Sunil Kant Munjal represents so much of what we stand for as an anchor institution —innovation, inclusion, and the power of culture to transform lives.
