West Midland fire stations are reminding residents to stay safe over bank holiday and half-term break
Residents and businesses are being urged to put safety first during half-term and bank holiday activities.

West Midlands Fire Service said whether travelling, tackling DIY projects, planning a barbecue, or gardening, a few simple precautions can help avoid emergencies – and ensure our firefighters stay available for the most serious of incidents.
Emily Fernandez, WMFS Head of Prevention, said: “Whether you’ll be at home, or out and about with family and friends, please have a safe Bank Holiday weekend and half-term. What starts as a small fire or accident can escalate very quickly.

“Please avoid burning your household waste or recycling. Aside from the very real fire risk, it can harm the environment and affect neighbours’ health. This is especially important in Birmingham, while the bin strikes continue.
“We’re working closely with Birmingham City Council and other partners to monitor the impact of uncollected rubbish and mitigate any fire risks that may arise. Our crews are ready to respond, but we all have a role to play in preventing fires in the first place.”
