Megan Aplin, Societal Delivery Manager at Severn Trent, said: “We’re excited to be bringing Big Boost for Brum to St Andrew’s – it’s a fantastic venue and we’re expecting another brilliant turnout.
“Whether you’re looking for your first job, a fresh start, or just want to brush up on your interview skills, there really is something for everyone. We’ve got a great mix of employers, live vacancies, and support services all in one place – something for everyone no matter where you are on your job search.”
The company has been engaging with local job shops and job centres to support those who have been out of work long term, to remove any barriers in people accessing the company’s job opportunities by providing training and coaching.
It’s all part of Severn Trent’s wider commitment to supporting communities across the region – that first started in East Birmingham over 18 months ago. 85% of the wards in East Birmingham are in the 10% most deprived in England – with East Birmingham’s unemployment rate exceeding 12%, compared to national average of 4.5%
Through its 10-year plan, the company aims to help 100,000 people at risk of water poverty, tackling one of the root causes – unemployment – by providing access to jobs, training, and support.
Severn Trent has also been working with local schools, mentoring prison leavers, and hosting events like Big Boost to help people from all backgrounds access meaningful employment and help remove barriers that people face when it comes to finding or getting jobs.
“There’s so much untapped talent in Birmingham,” adds Megan. “It’s a city that’s positively thriving, and we want to make sure everyone has the chance opportunity to shine – and this event is all about giving people the tools and confidence to do just that.”
While the event is fully free, getting a ticket is encouraged – however, it’s fine to turn up on the day: Severn Trent's Big Boost for Brum Jobs Fair Tickets, Thu, Jun 5, 2025 at 10:00 AM | Eventbrite
