100 years of W.I. friendship celebrated

One hundred years later, the members of the same W.I. met at Aston-by-Stone Village Hall to celebrate the centenary. Staffordshire Chair Helen Mancy presented a certificate commemorating the 100 years to President Pam Lowe, and a certificate of 50 years' membership to Victoria Simpson.

Member Joan Jones accepted the President's gift of a cake slice on behalf of all. An appropriate gift, given the W.I.'s fame for cakes! A delicious tea was provided by the Secret Kitchen. Entertainment was dongs from the decades the W.I. had been inexistence, by Joni Talks.

The hall was beautifully decorated, with plants on each table, and a wonderful flower arrangement by member Terry Milward on the stage.

Each member received a coaster in W.I. green and white - made by a Potteries firm, of course! It was a very happy occasion, a gathering of friends old and new, and now we look forward to the next 100 years. I have a feeling that whatever happens in the world, the W.I. and the friendship it generates will continue to make this world a better one.
