The ‘Nuestro sabor de Espana’ - Our Flavour of Spain, garden put together by Stourport High School’s gardening club members, caught the attention of judges who presented them with the Best Use of Colour accolade in the School Garden Challenge.
The team was also awarded a Highly Commended certificate – the highest accolade given by the Royal Horticultural Society in the Schools’ Section.
Students Ellie-Jade Malinowski, Toby Simmons, Isla Phillips, Archie Grimshaw, Jazmin Carter-Smith, Tommy Price and Logan Wilkes spent three days creating the garden at Malvern, which featured around 300 plants.
Gaudi inspired tiles and ‘Sergio’ the bull were created by the school’s art club, ‘Don Quixote's Windmill’ bug house was designed and made by the science club and the ‘Al Fresco’ seating and trellis were built by the DT department.
Cover supervisor and gardening club lead, Lucy Cooper, who organised and supported the team, said: “We are so incredibly proud of their hard work, creativity and passion for gardening.
“Their vibrant and imaginative display truly stood out. This award is a testament to their dedication and teamwork.”
It was the third year of success for the school’s gardening club at the festival, having been highly commended for their Secret Garden in 2023 and for their English Country Garden in 2024.
