Period poverty presents a significant obstacle to health and educational opportunities for many young girls, especially in marginalised communities and third world countries. Lacking access to hygiene products often forces girls them to miss school, consequently hindering their educational prospects and affecting their futures in the long run.
As awareness around period poverty increases, initiatives like ‘Pants4Purpose’ by Knickers By FullStop underscore the importance of confronting this issue directly.
This initiative is not merely about selling a product, it champions a cause focused on uplifting and empowering women and girls, ensuring that everyone deserves access to comfortable and dignified menstrual care. The initiative pledges to donate one pair of period underwear for every four pairs sold.
Founder Natalie Leslie, who previously launched the "Box of Hope" project to deliver care packages to underprivileged children, states that “this initiative arose from a deep understanding of the pressing need for menstrual products among young girls”. Natalie’s insights into these needs have shaped their mission to help eradicate period poverty.
The ‘Pants4Purpose’ initiative not only provides practical and fashionable menstruation options but has also partnered with organisations like Rizal National High School in the Philippines and Freedom4Girls. These collaborations are crucial for reaching those most affected by period poverty, directing support where it is most needed.
