Codsall students celebrate VE 80 Day

Events in school included a 'Great Codsall Bake-Off' with wonderful cakes made and decorated within 4 hours, sights and sounds around the school, reflection time and for those not involved in imminent examinations, a chance to make a lasting memory for future generations to see.

Despite the public examination season being underway, students and staff at Codsall High School have been able to take part in a range of activities this week to help students remember and reflect upon the events of 1945.

VE Day began with the start of the 'Great Codsall Bake Off', with 12 selected students representing their houses and competing for the 'Star Baker' trophy. 

Students worked for 4 hours to bake their cakes, design the decoration and finish their masterpieces before judging took place. All of the stresses and trials of the Bake Off tent were experienced by the competitors and regular updates were shared around school. 

Simon Maxfield, Headteacher said 'The standard of the entries, both in terms of taste and texture, but also the intricacy of decoration were simply stunning. We have highly talented students and we are very proud of what they have been able to achieve.' 

Students have also had time during the week to reflect with tutors on the events behind VE day, and the importance of the lessons to be learned. Around the school, cut out figures and audio clips were used to immerse students a little more in the scenes from 1945.

In the afternoon, those not involved in examinations took a little time out to create a lasting memory with a special aerial photograph. It was also really interesting to note the entries made in the school log from this week in 1945.
