My sons name is Gary Nelson he is now 16 years old.
Gary's journey started aged eight at Wolverhampton BJJ, where he was training in BJJ (Brazilian jui jitsu), wrestling and Muay Thai.
Since leaving Wolverhampton BJJ, Gary has trained in various local gyms.

Gary has competed regularly in BJJ and Mauy Thai competitions over the years and won.
In December 2024, Gary was one of 50 children aged between 10-17 selected to represent England in the IMMAF (International Mixed Martial Arts Federation - the largest organisation in amateur mixed martial arts in the world) European championships in Serbia for February 2025.
Gary was in a stacked division with 23 people and had to have and win six fights to achieve gold.

Only 13 children won Gold for England, Gary being one of them.
Gary is undefeated in MMA, his current record is 9-0.
Gary is the current European champion in the 16-17 yeay, -65.8 kg category.

Gary has been selected again to represent England in the world championships in Abu Dhabi in July 25.
Gary trains really hard and is looking forward to the world championship tournament in July, he is determined to win, not only for his country and himself, but for his family, friends, school, teammates and city also.

Sometimes we don't hear about the positive things that Wolverhampton has achieved and the numerous outlets available to us all. Hopefully this story will uplift and reassure us that there's opportunities and talent in our small city.
