Wolverhampton first council in West Midlands to reduce sugar and salt at mealtimes

This summer term, Wolverhampton Catering Service will provide Real Good Ketchup to its 20 schools, serving school children with an all natural, no added sugar ketchup that removes a cube of sugar from every plate at mealtimes when ketchup is on the menu. 

Chris East, Head of Service at Wolverhampton Catering Service explains why they’ve taken this step. “School meals play an important role in a child’s education and eating a healthy balanced meal at lunchtime provides the nutrients they need to grow and thrive in the classroom.”

He adds, “We know food is super important to fuel sporting activities too, and exercising is an excellent way of boosting your brain, making friends and feeling good about yourself. Everything we want for the young people in our city!”

Real Good Ketchup also boasts 80% less salt and is made with the top 14 allergen free ingredients in a nut free environment making it a safe choice for schools. Comments Liz Jones, founder of Real Good Ketchup: “This school year we are seeing more councils take further steps to reduce sugar and salt on menus to meet the Government and Public Health guidelines for children’s food."

Real Good Ketchup received a Great Taste Award 2024, is the lowest in sugar and salt and designed to meet the nutritional guidelines for children's food. It is served in over 1,000 primary schools with more councils and school caterers making the switch this year.
