Described by The Times as 'A fascinating quest... An audio odyssey... and some marvellous Peak District reflections.’ The show combines spoken word, soundscape and film and draws on the voices and stories of Mark’s popular series, Voices From The Peak.
"For some years I’ve been recording the voices, wildlife and atmospheres of the region to create six audio artworks - each following a different story," says Mark Gwynne Jones. "From shepherds who talk of sheep with supernatural powers for forecasting snow; to the farmer who says of the river in flood, 'she’s angry' - people’s voices and the way we use words reveal rich connections to the landscape."

Reflecting on childhood experiences and encounters with trespassers, cave dwellers, and mineral miners - Mark’s funny and absorbing performance evokes a landscape rich with both beauty and danger. Along the way we also hear memories of big winters, thoughts on the origins of well dressing, and people’s reactions to the return of ravens to the Peak District following an absence of 150 years.
To celebrate three new chapters of the work, Mark will deliver his award-winning show Voices From The Peak at Foxlowe Arts Centre, Leek, on Friday, 16 May.
Tickets, £12, are available at Foxlowe Arts Centre foxloweartscentre.org.uk
