Russell Roof Tiles, with manufacturing sites on Nicolson Way and Wetmore Lane – employs a team of over 100 in Burton and has invested £100,000 in injection moulding machinery as part of its ongoing drive for innovation.

The manufacturer has purchased a high-efficiency Borche Injection Moulding Machine to fast-track its production processes at its dedicated plastics facility on Wetmore Lane. The site, which originally opened in 1997, manufactures UPVC accessories, helping meet demand for its comprehensive roof offering.

Borche is among the world’s top injection moulding machine manufacturers whose UK operation is based in Kingswinford. The new 400TN Injection Moulding Machine will be used to make Dry Verge Unit accessories for Russell Roof Tiles’ latest new product Bute3®.

The revolutionary Bute3®roof tile is the UK’s first multi-functional roof tile, for which this Dry Verge product has been exclusively developed. The innovative design and colour options of Bute3® provide the first real alternative to small-format concrete, natural clay, and slate roof coverings and are expected to be used across the UK.

This latest investment is the latest in a long line as part of Russell Roof Tiles’ ongoing commitment to enhancing product offerings and advancing on its journey towards greater energy efficiency.

Daniel Hancox, Corporate Sustainability and Development Director at Russell Roof Tiles, comments: “We are dedicated to continual improvements meeting customer demand and developing as a business through product investment. Over the years, we’ve made significant commitments to state-of-the-art machinery, from solar panels to our fleet of electric forklift trucks, to enhance our processes while meeting efficiency targets.

“This latest investment marks the latest step in our product investment journey and supports our ongoing sustainable strategy to minimise our environmental impact. This new machine offers potential energy savings of up to 60-80 per cent, aligning nicely with our sustainability and Net Zero objectives, helping us further reduce our carbon footprint.”

Russell Roof Tiles announced its ambitious pledge to become Net Zero by 2040, 10 years earlier than the agreed Government target, in 2022. The manufacturer recognises that as a leading sector player, it has a responsibility to perform an important role in supporting the UK’s transition to Net Zero.

The purchase of this new machinery comes at an important time for Russell Roof Tiles, as its largest investment project to date is in its final stages. The construction of the new £18.5m state-of-the-art plant at its Nicolson Way main tile manufacturing site, will double output and help to continue to increase efficiencies and capacity. Further energy efficient measures introduced at the new manufacturing plant include a cutting-edge curing facility (only the second of its type in the country) as well as the installation of solar panels, the first on its sites.

Russell Roof Tiles is a leading independent concrete roof tile manufacturer supplying products for national housebuilders and high-profile social housing and commercial projects. The company produces hundreds of thousands of tiles and related fittings and accessories every week that are used on pitched roofs across the UK.
