Everett joined the academy as its interim headteacher in February, following a headship at the highly regarded Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School in Coventry. Having made a positive early impact, he has now been selected for the substantive role.

He will be working in close collaboration with The Mercian Trust, which runs the Academy, its senior leadership team, staff and the wider parent body, to continue implementing and embedding a series of measures that will deliver positive change for the school and set its direction for a bright future.

Speaking about his appointment, Mr. Everett said: “During my short time at the academy so far, it has been a joy to work closely with staff, students and families alike and I am looking forward to building even stronger partnerships with our school community in the weeks and months ahead. This is an Academy with huge potential, and I am eager to lead the next phase of its journey.”

Dan Parkes, CEO of The Mercian Trust, commented: "We are very pleased to welcome Matthew Everett as the new permanent Headteacher of Shire Oak Academy, at what is a very important time in its trajectory. His experience and passion for education, and his shared desire to deliver the very best outcomes for our children and young people, will be invaluable as we seek to strengthen the academy and serve our community”.

The positive progress of the Academy will also be supported by a recently established advisory governing board, comprising several experienced school leaders. Several members of the previous local governing body are also joining a steering group to support Shire Oak’s positive trajectory.
