After two decades in the demanding hospitality industry, Guy knew it was time for a change. Driven by his passion for supporting the local community and his desire for a better work-life balance, he set out to create something of his own. Launching Kitchen Makeovers (Birmingham West) was the perfect solution – allowing him to help homeowners transform their kitchens while also giving him the flexibility to spend more quality time with his wife and two daughters.
“As a business owner, the pace of work is different, but the goal remains the same – ensuring every customer has a great experience and is delighted with the results. Just like in hospitality, customer satisfaction is everything. I want people in Birmingham and the West Midlands to know that as a perfectionist, I’ll stop at nothing to deliver the best results,” said Guy.
UK-born brand Kitchen Makeovers was among the first to introduce a sustainable and cost-effective solution for kitchen renovations. Instead of a full overhaul, the brand makes use of existing space by replacing handles, doors, worktops and sinks – modernising kitchens at a fraction of the cost.
Kitchen Makeovers (Birmingham West) had a fantastic start, and while business has naturally seen peaks and troughs with the current economy, Guy is incredibly proud of what he has built over the past year. As the only Kitchen Makeovers business in the West Midlands, he has established a strong presence in the region, working with homeowners across Birmingham and beyond, even taking on projects as far as Coventry. Despite the challenges, he remains committed to growing his business and helping more local families rejuvenate their kitchens with affordable, high-quality makeovers.
“Being a business owner has been a real rollercoaster, but after a year, I feel like I’ve truly found my feet. The biggest change has been my work-life balance – after years of working long hours, I can now spend more quality time my family. Last year was the first Christmas and New Year I wasn’t working since I was 17, and being able to enjoy that time at home in Birmingham was incredible.
“I have two young daughters, one 10 and one 7 (going on 27!), and they love adventure – especially trips to the beach and anything adrenaline-fuelled. We take a two-week break in Wales every year, where we go biking, climbing and visit amusement parks and the zoo. After 15 years of my wife spending weekends alone while I worked, having that time together now as a family means everything. That has been the biggest highlight of this journey so far,” added Guy.
Over the past year, Guy has loved getting to know homeowners across Birmingham and the West Midlands, enjoying the social side of working in people’s homes. Building strong relationships with customers has been a big part of his journey, and as he looks ahead, he’s focused on growing his business, reaching more local people and keeping his glowing reviews coming.
He’s also built a solid network of reliable plumbers, electricians and other tradespeople, making sure every project runs smoothly. With a great first year behind him, Guy is excited to keep expanding Kitchen Makeovers (Birmingham West) and help even more homes get a fresh new look.
