Members of Far Forest Lea Memorial CE Primary Academy’s after-school Eco Club have been busy helping to improve the environment and raising awareness about reducing, reusing and recycling.

Parent volunteer Hayley Tarbet, who runs the club with teaching assistant Leanne Lewis, said projects have included decorating reusable canvas shopping bags, making crumbles from fruit grown in the school grounds, planting bulbs and litter picking in nearby lanes.

Bewdley and Rock county and district councillor Dan Morehead donated money from his Divisional Fund for litter pickers and rubbish bag holders.

He said: “I like to ensure my fund is used to support groups that add real value to their community and this was a great opportunity to do just that. The Eco Club also aligns with the mission of the Wyre Forest Corporate Plan to create a green, clean and safe place to live.”

Mokshuda Begum, head of school, said: “We are indebted to Councillor Morehead for his kind donation and support of our young eco-warriors, who were very excited to receive their special eco green Blue Peter badges.

“We are also very grateful to Mrs Tarbet for volunteering to run our successful Eco Club, along with Mrs Lewis.”
