St Giles Hospice is inviting cyclists of all abilities to take part in Cycle St Giles, a newly revamped fundraising challenge designed to fundraise for local people, and their loved ones, living with a terminal illness. The event takes place on Sunday, 8 June, starting from St Giles Hospice, Fisherwick Road, Whittington. Entry is £35, with a 10 per cent early bird discount available until 31 March.
This year, St Giles has combined its previous cycling events, ‘Cycle Spring’ and ‘Cycle Autumn’, into one thrilling ride, offering participants a choice of three scenic routes: a 29-mile route, a 60-mile route and a 100-mile route. Routes take riders through the beautiful countryside of Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire, and Leicestershire. Along the way, participants will enjoy well-stocked feed stations, and at the finish line, they’ll be rewarded with a finisher’s medal and a well-deserved lunch.
Local man, Gavin, previously took part in Cycle St Giles, alongside his two boys, Oliver and Edward. Gavin said: “My wife, Sarah - the boys’ mummy - passed away in March 2017 after receiving wonderful end of life care at St Giles Hospice. Their support allowed us to create precious final memories together. “St Giles has been there for us ever since, which is why we’ve been fundraising, to help more families get the care they need when it matters most.”

Zoe Wright, Community and Events Manager at St Giles Hospice, said: "We are incredibly excited to launch our new Cycle St Giles challenge. Whether you’re riding in memory of a loved one, pushing yourself to a new personal best, or simply enjoying the journey, every mile you cycle and every pound you raise will make a difference to local people and their loved ones facing a terminal illness."
