Kerry Prince, from Cannock, stepped up to the mark for her beloved grandmother Emily Barker, by taking on the walking challenge throughout November to raise funds for the hospice that cared for her beloved nan in her final days.
Emily, who died in September 2024 in the Burntwood Suite at St Giles Hospice, had fought cancer six times throughout her life and was a passionate supporter of cancer charities. She had always expressed a wish to raise money for St Giles, but never got the chance to do so herself.
Kerry said: "My nan was my best friend. She was a fighter, and in turn, she taught me to be one too. When she passed away, I knew I had to do something to honour her memory and support the incredible care that St Giles provided."

The challenge saw Kerry significantly exceed her initial £200 target by raising £1,000.

"The care nan received at St Giles was exceptional," Kerry said. "They couldn't do enough for her, ensuring she was comfortable and pain-free. The team was there within minutes whenever she needed anything, and they created an environment where my daughter felt comfortable visiting her nanny - it was just so different from a hospital setting."
Emma Yates, Deputy Director of Income Generation from St Giles Hospice, said: "Kerry's dedication to honouring her grandmother's memory perfectly illustrates why hospice care matters so much to our community."
With only partial government funding, hospices rely heavily on community support to maintain their services.
