Two free classes are available, the first class takes place every Wednesday from 9.30am to 10.30am at Keele Village Hall, Highway Lane, Newcastle-Under-Lyme, ST5 5AN.

The second class takes place every Friday morning from 11am to 12pm at Staffs Lifting Club, Unit 4B, Campbell Road, Stoke-On-Trent, ST4 4DX.

Delivered by Staffs Lifting Club, the new free sessions are designed to help more people get moving with Parkinson’s in a fun and social way.

Relatives and carers are also welcome to attend or join in, and the group also meets for teas and coffees after each session.

Weight training can be a great way for people with Parkinson’s to manage their condition and can have many positives, including:

  • Better balance and coordination
  • Reduced risk of freezing and falls
  • Better cardiovascular health
  • Better energy levels and improved sleep patterns

  • Reduced anxiety

Adam is one of the weight training instructors at Staffs Lifting Club, he said: “The friendly and supportive environment of our club enables everyone to improve their strength week to week using gym equipment in a safe and progressive way. We are making strength-based exercise accessible to all."
