With over 20 years of experience, Victoria Bentley is a distinguished intellectual property litigator specialising in disputes arising from software and emerging technologies. Having started her career in software development, she has a unique understanding of IP issues connected to technology and has supported businesses in disputes across all IP rights in a wide variety of industries, including financial services, automotive, life sciences, telecommunications and information technology. She has been involved in precedent-setting copyright and patent cases, including acting for a major US wireless communications company in one of the largest patent actions before the UK courts. Victoria is experienced in leading multi-jurisdictional disputes, and she is looking forward to working with all Fieldfisher's international offices, especially Germany as she speaks fluent German.

Having been raised in the Midlands, Victoria returned to Birmingham at the start of her legal career, after working in London. Her focus in her role at Fieldfisher will include supporting clients in varied IP disputes and capitalising on opportunities in the Midlands. She has supported key health innovation projects across the region and was recently named in the 'Top 10 Influential IP Lawyers in the Midlands'.

Victoria is the third hire for the Birmingham office so far this year, with the office also welcoming Dispute Resolution partner, Darren Kenny and Medical Negligence partner, Mandy Luckman in 2025. Last year, the Birmingham Corporate practice announced the hire of partner Tom Rush who joined from Gateley Legal.

Victoria joins Fieldfisher's market-leading contentious Intellectual Property practice, which includes 6 partners in the UK and over 80 lawyers globally. The team's flagship cases include Getty Images v Stability AI, the first litigation in the world to address the impact of copyright law on generative AI, and Sky v Skykick which changed the law on trade mark bad faith in the UK and across Europe. Victoria's appointment reflects the continued expansion of the practice, which welcomed a four-strong IP team to its Berlin office in the middle of last year and the return of Thierry van Innis as Of Counsel in Brussels in November 2024.

Ranjit Dhindsa, Birmingham Office Leader, said: "As Fieldfisher continues to grow its offering in Birmingham, establishing new practices and services is key. Victoria will lead the creation of our IP offering in the region, and her hire will support us in delivering our specialist litigation strategy, as well as exceptional services to our clients."

Victoria Bentley added: "Being from Birmingham means that I know firsthand just how much opportunity and talent there is in the region. The Midlands has strong links across Europe, and Fieldfisher's international platform will enable me to continue to handle multi-jurisdictional disputes effectively and develop our market-leading reputation in this area. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues from the region, and across the firm's international network as clients continue to grapple with IP issues including increasingly in emerging technology."
