The operation has seen two operatives from Lichfield District Council’s Streetscene team jet-wash the floor surface of the parade at Sankey’s Corner.
It began in December and following a pause to allow the weather to warm up a little, the clean-up resumed in late January with the team expected to finish over the next few weeks.
The wider project to enhance the centres of Burntwood and Lichfield, is being funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) - part of the previous government’s Levelling Up funds to help reduce inequalities between communities.
The first phase involves cleaning and making repairs. The second will introduce, in some locations, new foliage, art, benches and street furniture to make them more welcoming and vibrant.
The works in Burntwood are also including High Street, Morley Road, Parkhill Road and Swan Island, and in Lichfield the city centre’s pedestrianised zone as well as Minster Pool Walk and The Friary.
Councillor Richard Holland, Cabinet Member for High Street & Economic Development, said: “I am really pleased with the clean-up operation at Sankey’s Corner - it makes such a difference.
“The works to improve Burntwood town and Lichfield city centres will make both areas more attractive benefiting our retail and hospitality businesses.”
