Five, six, seven, eight: Etchinghill WI hit the dance floor

As part of being encouraged to take part in Angela Rippon's Let's Dance campaign on 2 March, and to celebrate our members' night, we were joined by Rachel Allen who runs the Sundance School Of Dance.

Members took part in learning line dancing. As part of our contribution to this campaign Rachel proceeded to take us through the steps of a routine. Following Rachel's step by step guidance and accompanied by some toe tapping and upbeat country and western music, we built up to completing a two wall routine. This was energetic and amazing fun and by the end of the evening we were dancing away doing the full two wall turn. Rachel was excellent as a teacher demonstrating each segment patiently thereby making it easier to pick up the dance moves.

The Let's Dance campaign is one of the largest dance events ever done in the UK, and one of its aims is to raise awareness of the benefits that this type of activity can do for our mental health and physical wellbeing. We certainly felt uplifted from this evening's session and Margaret Devey thanked Rachel for our very enjoyable time. We then enjoyed a lovely buffet provided by our members.

In other business, future dates for the diary were discussed:

  • There will be a games afternoon on Monday, 24 February taking place at Rugeley Fire Station.
  • The walking group will meet at the Canalside Farm shop in Great Haywood on Tuesday, 25 February for a walk in and around Shugborough Hall.
  • The Rose & Shamrock group meeting will take place at Cannock Wood Village Hall on Monday, 10 March at 2pm.

We meet every second Wednesday at the village hall. As a group we enjoy lots of different social activities to suit all members and we enjoy a variety of interesting speakers at our monthly meetings. If you feel you would like to join in, please come along to Etchinghill Village Hall or you can contact us at etchinghillwisatffs@gmail.com
