Around 60 students, who are enrolled on English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) courses at the college's Paget Road campus, are taking part in a range of activities designed to help them use their speaking, reading and listening skills a range of settings.

The group kicked off the week with a scavenger hunt around the city centre and visits to the art gallery, central library and St Peter's Church.

They have also had the opportunity to attend a careers fair at the college's Paget Road campus - with stalls giving information on training courses, job opportunities, and local support organisations - and take part in virtual reality sessions to give them experience of interviews and help with British citizenship through simulated visits to London and the Houses of Parliament.

Lorna Prosser, curriculum manager for ESOL at the college, said: "Many of our students started at the college in September with very little ability to speak, write or understand English and they have all progressed extremely well in just a few months.

"The enrichment week has been arranged to extend their learning by giving them the opportunity to take part in a range of activities to put their new skills to the test, explore the city they call home and have some fun at the same time."
