After rising to prominence as a contestant on The X Factor UK in 2015, Matreya’s career took an unexpected turn when he stepped away from the spotlight following a personal loss. In the years that followed, he turned to healing practices, including Reiki, and underwent a period of personal and creative reinvention. Now, 'Eagles' marks his return—not just to music, but as an artist with a renewed sense of purpose.

“Eagles is a reflection of everything I’ve been through—the grief, the healing, and the lessons I’ve learnt about trusting your path and embracing transformation,” says Matreya. “It’s about finding one’s courage and inner strength through life’s challenges and discovering one’s unique life purpose.”

Anticipation for 'Eagles' had been building ahead of its release, with Matreya’s growing fanbase showing strong engagement on social media, building almost 70K followers before release. Now that the single is out, early reactions have been overwhelmingly positive.

Blending pop, soul, and Afro-world influences, the track is a deeply personal reflection on resilience and transformation. The single showcases Matreya’s rich vocal range and smooth, melodic precision, with his falsetto adding an intimate, emotional weight to the song’s uplifting message. The production is cinematic, layering soulful instrumentation with lyrics that speak to overcoming adversity.

With 'Eagles', Matreya isn’t just making a comeback—he’s setting the foundation for an entirely new era. It is the first taste of Matreya’s upcoming debut album, Anchor, set for release in late 2025. The album promises to delve further into themes of love, loss, and rebirth, offering an intimate look at his journey over the past few years. Honest, soulful, and emotionally charged, this release signals the arrival of an artist who has truly found his voice.
