All funds raised by TreeCycle help to ensure that St Giles Hospice can continue to support local people, and their loved ones, living with a terminal illness.

This year’s TreeCycle campaign saw hundreds of volunteers and local businesses joining forces to collect over 5,200 trees across the region. The initiative’s success highlights the power of community spirit in supporting St Giles, which relies on charitable donations for the majority of its funding.

Chloe Hope, Head of Fundraising at St Giles Hospice, said: “This incredible achievement couldn’t have come at a more crucial time for St Giles, as we’ve recently been forced to reduce our services due to financial pressures.

“The funds raised through TreeCycle will go directly towards providing vital care and support to patients, and their loved ones. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported our TreeCycle initiative, from our dedicated volunteers to the thousands of donors who booked to have their Christmas tree collected and recycled.”

The record-breaking total is particularly significant given the hospice’s ongoing funding challenges.  St Giles recently revealed service reductions in November, including cutting inpatient beds from 23 to 15 and making 22 staff redundant.

The hospice has worked to reduce its initial £1.5 million deficit to £500,000 for 2025, but still faces additional pressures. Now, more than ever, St Giles relies on the generosity of its local community to continue its vital care.

Chloe continued: “To break the £100,000 mark is nothing short of amazing.

“It’s fantastic to see how much people care about the work St Giles does, especially at a time when every pound truly makes a difference.

"We’d like to thank everyone who made TreeCycle a success. Special thanks go to the local businesses and community groups who provided vehicles and logistical support to make the initiative possible.”
