Sales manager comes home to Vistry after building career in housebuilding industry
Former bio-scientist Laura Hayward has found the formula for careers success after spending 10 years working in the housebuilding industry.
The 36-year-old, who lives in Nantwich, has been appointed as area sales manager at Vistry North Central Midlands, based at the company’s regional headquarters in Stafford.
She had previously spent three years working for Bovis Homes as a sales consultant after being made redundant from her job in the medical science industry in 2014.
“It really does feel like I have come home after being away for seven years because I used to work for Bovis Homes and they are now part of Vistry Group,” she said. “I have learned so much by working at other housebuilders that I felt I was ready to make the step up to be a sales manager.
“I worked in a laboratory setting for three years but it didn’t really suit my personality. There was not much, if any, opportunity to get out and about and meet people.
“My dad and brother were in the construction industry and seemed to have exciting and fulfilling roles, so I decided to try for job in the business. I thought it that it might be a better bet for me as I am a people person and just love interacting with different people. I applied for a job as a sales consultant with Bovis Homes and absolutely loved it.
“It really played to my skill set and I was in my element chatting to customers and helping them find their dream home. The job is incredibly satisfying because you really are helping people with what could be the biggest decision of their lives and it is a privilege to be there with them every step of the way.”
After leaving Bovis Homes in 2017, Laura worked for a couple of other housebuilders as a sales consultant before joining Vistry as a sales area manager in August 2024.
She said: “I am now overseeing the sales teams at Edwalton Fields in Nottingham and Bollin Grange in Macclesfield and will be in charge of two more developments when they launch in the new year. It is a challenge for me, but I am very excited about giving my all to this new role with new added responsibility.
“I am based at headquarters for part of the week but get to go out to visit the teams on site for the rest of the time. It is the perfect job for me as I love being on site with the sales consultants and meeting the customers too.
“I am looking forward to repaying the faith the senior management at Vistry have showed in me by delivering a strong sales performance across all of my sites. I will be doing this by helping my teams to excel and by ensuring that we always put the customer first.”
Carina Wilde, sales and marketing director at Vistry North Central Midlands, said: “Laura is a born sales person and luckily for us, she is also a natural as a team leader. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for the job are infectious and she leads by example by setting the highest standards.
“It is lovely to welcome her back to the business. We are confident that she will thrive in her new role and will help this region move forward and remain successful.”
