David Morris, president of Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club, said: “We just can’t believe how kind people are during our tours around the town and also taking the sleigh to local supermarkets.

“It was quite hard navigating Santa’s new sleigh around some of the roads, but everywhere we went drivers pulled over to let us through and there was certainly a lot of honking of horns and ‘thumbs-up’ expressions of support. All our Rotary members found this very motivating.”

He said that this year the club had been able to draw down considerable ‘on the ground’ support from a much wider pool of helpers, ranging from Barclays Bank to a Wolverhampton-based motorsport company.

“During Santa’s sleigh visit to Shrewsbury’s Asda on Sunday Rotary elves were joined by Antonio and Dominicio Giovinazzo, directors of 3GS Motorsport.

"Nobody celebrates Christmas quite like the Italians and we were so glad that they were there to support us in the greeting and collection process.”

David added: “Rotary thrives on building partnerships and this year has been absolutely fantastic. We’ve never had so much ‘outside help’. A truly memorable Rotary Christmas.”
