Since 2016, local people and businesses have been disposing of their real Christmas trees in a clean, convenient and eco-friendly way by signing up to have their trees collected by the hospice’s army of volunteers, in return for a small donation.

Last year, TreeCycle volunteers picked up 3833 Christmas trees, raising over £67,000 for the hospice, which cares for local people, and their loved ones, living with a terminal illness. This year St Giles is hoping that even more people will sign up to have their real Christmas tree collected and recycled.

Chloe Hope, Head of Fundraising at St Giles Hospice, said: “TreeCycle is an important fundraising campaign which supports our work at the hospice and makes a real difference to the environment too, so we're delighted to be running it again this year.

“We’ve already received an amazing response from our TreeCycle, and we're hoping that this year's event will be bigger and better than ever. If you’ve got a real Christmas tree then please sign up to TreeCycle, and we’ll take away your tree in the new year with no mess and no fuss.

“We’d also like to thank Marfleet Facilities who are sponsoring TreeCycle this year, as well as other businesses supporting the initiative – we simply couldn’t run our TreeCycle without the generous support of our community.”

With increasing financial challenges across the hospice sector, the generosity of the local community is more vital than ever. St Giles Hospice relies on these donations to continue providing vital care for local people, and their loved ones, living with a terminal illness.

This will be the ninth year that St Giles has been running TreeCycle to raise funds for local people, and their loved ones living with a terminal illness. Teams will collect trees from around Lichfield, Walsall, Rugeley, Burntwood, Stafford and surrounding areas.

TreeCycle volunteers will be collecting trees from January 10 to 13. The suggested donation for trees up to 8ft is £15 and the donation for trees up to 10ft is £20.

Collections must be booked by 10am on Tuesday, 7 January.

All trees collected will be chipped and recycled at Greener Composting in Lichfield, where they will be transformed into compost for agricultural use. By participating in TreeCycle, donors not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also directly support the hospice’s critical services.
