The ease of living could even start before moving day thanks to Easy Move, from Elan Homes, the company behind Lorne House at The Sidings.

What was originally a pair of semi-detached homes but was more recently used as a gym has been transformed into six apartments.

Elan regional sales director Tracey Ball said: “People perhaps think of apartments as being for first time buyers and young professionals, but our apartments in Lichfield are attracting keen interest from downsizers. They recognise that once the children have grown up and moved out, they’re rattling round in what was the family home and it would make practical and financial sense to move to somewhere that better suits their current and future housing needs.

“The good news for homeowners is that our Easy Move scheme can wrap up the sale of the property they want to move from. We’ll value the customer’s home and instruct independent estate agents to market it. When an acceptable offer is received, they can reserve their new apartment. A key advantage is there’s no link between the value of the properties being sold or bought, contracts on both properties will be exchanged simultaneously and we’ll even pay the agent’s fees.”

The apartments are priced from £385,000 to £430,000.

The two ground floor apartments have their own separate entrances and courtyard gardens, while those on the upper floors will be accessed via a central lobby and staircase or lift.

One of the most striking features is the vaulted ceilings with exposed steel in the penthouses.

“The apartments we’ve created are easy to manage, efficient to run, with a high specification and lots of character as we’ve tried to preserve and enhance the original features as much as possible,” Tracey added.

“The apartments are perfectly placed around a five-minute walk of the historic city’s thriving high street. It has everything residents could need including bakeries, a record shop, and boutique stores selling sumptuous soft furnishings, decorative ornaments and gorgeous glassware, along with beautiful clothing brands. Plus, Birmingham can be reached in around 45 minutes via nearby Lichfield City station.”
