Groups gather to celebrate the impact of community lottery
Community groups that receive funding from Lichfield District Community Lottery have gathered for a special event to celebrate its impact.
The lottery, launched by Lichfield District Council in 2021, raises money for good causes across the district whilst giving players a chance to win a range of cash prizes in the weekly draws including a £25,000 jackpot.
At the city’s George Hotel on Thursday, 5 December, beneficiaries received cheques from the lottery, explained how the funding helps them to support people in Lichfield District and encouraged other community groups to sign up.
There is no administration fee and 60 per cent of every £1 ticket goes to good causes with the individual lottery player choosing the organisation they wish to support.
Councillor Richard Cox, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Engagement said: “The community lottery helps good causes connect with supporters and gives local people the chance to support the causes they care most about. To date we have sold more than 224,000 tickets and raised more than £134,000 for local groups working at the heart of our community.
“It’s a valuable source of revenue so if you are a local good cause looking for ways to raise funds please look into registering. And if you want to support a group and be in with the chance of scooping a cash prize, why not play?”
Lichfield District Community Lottery currently supports more than 70 local good causes including Pathway Project, Lichfield Greenhill Bower, Lichfield Garrick Theatre, Lichfield Festival, Lichfield Litter Legends, Staffordshire Regiment Association (Veterans Reconnection Hub), Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust and the We Love Lichfield fund.
Esther Allen, Chief Executive Officer at Spark, a community hub in Burntwood, said: “Lichfield District Community Lottery has raised awareness of the need to fundraise for many local charities such as Spark. For us it is essential to pay for support for families in crisis.”
Van Barrett, Trustee of the Staffordshire Regiment Association Veterans Reconnection Hub, added: “Playing the Lichfield District Community Lottery is a really easy way of helping organisations to raise funds. It has enabled us to set ourselves up and I would encourage people to get on board and participate.”
