Golf club hit the target following a successful year of fundraising

In December 2023, Druids Heath Golf Club captain, Mike Teague chose Samaritans of Walsall & District to be his charity of the year for 2024. As his tenure has recently come to an end, Mike was able to hand over a donation of £15,000 to the branch.

Having launched his fundraising with a nearest the pin completion in December 2023, Mike, ably supported by his wife Marion and Ken Ford, held numerous events including golf tournaments, an Abba night, Peaky Blinders night, and a 60s evening during 2024. All the events were well supported by local golf clubs and associations, raised an amazing £15,000. As Mike handed over the cheque, he wanted to thank all the local individuals and businesses who had helped donate raffle prizes and for all the people who had supported his events.

Sharon Dicken, Deputy Director for fundraising said: "All the money raised will go towards Project 55, Walsall Samaritans plan to have a new building, to replace our current 50 year old portacabin. We want to continue to provide non judgmental, confidential listening service to people in crisis or distress. The donation will help us to wards our £250,000 target".

The branch have raised  £237,000 due to the support of the local community, members of the public's, local businesses, and other Samaritan branches.
