The Men in Red are tuning up for their traditional Christmas concert, packed with all-time favourites, at the Severns Club, Lickhill Road, on Sunday December 15, at 7.30pm.

The choir has been hitting the high notes all year with a series of anniversary concerts and a special project designed to introduce men who had never sung in public before to the joy of choir membership.

Forty “have a go” singers signed up to the Wyre Men Sing Project Choir, which culminated in a sell-out concert at St George’s Church, Kidderminster, in June and raised £10,200 for the Kidderminster and Worcestershire Prostate Cancer Support Group.

In August, the choir helped organise Singin’ on the Train with Severn Valley Railway, which brought together six choirs from as far away as Torbay and Yorkshire to join the Men in Red for a day of music, singing at various stations and finishing with a sell-out mass choir concert on the Kidderminster Station concourse.

John Parkinson, choir member and communications manager, said: “It was such an enjoyable day of singing and raising funds for our wonderful heritage railway and so successful that we are already planning a similar event for next August.”

Choir members were honoured to join forces with Welsh-born singing star Aled Jones in concert at the iconic Birmingham Town Hall for a celebration of their milestone anniversary in September.

Mr Parkinson added: “With a packed programme and so many highlights throughout the year, the choir is going from strength to strength and is enjoying a marked uptake in membership.

“New members are always welcome. The ability to read music is not required, just a desire to sing, make music and enjoy the company of likeminded souls.”

Weekly rehearsals are at St Mary’s Church, Churchfields, Kidderminster, on Thursdays at 7.30pm. Anyone interested is welcome, with no obligation, or for more details visit kidderminstermalechoir.co.uk

Tickets, priced £10, for the concert at the Severns Club can be bought via the website, from the club in advance or on the door, subject to availability.

The choir’s full Christmas programme can be found on the website, which can also be used for anyone wishing to book the choir next year.
