At the meeting on 12 November we had a presentation from Dean Nixon called 'It’s the most wonderful time of the year'. Dean has researched many of our Christmas traditions, where they came from and how we have adapted these in this country. He talked about why we bring a tree into our house at Christmas and put decorations on it, why we send Christmas cards (and some very odd examples of Victorian cards), where St Nicholas originates from, where Rudolph the red nosed reindeer came from and many more interesting facts. There was a lively question and answer session afterwards, followed by tea and biscuits and the usual friendly chat amongst everyone.

Flower of the month (a flower brought in by a member) was decided on by placing some coins next to your choice, all monies to the Stoke on Trent Air Ambulance. The raffle was drawn and won by one of our visitors.

Next month is our Christmas celebration. We are all going out for dinner at a local restaurant where our president will no doubt have lots of fun in store with games and spot prizes as well as lovely food and drink.

Ashley WI offers friendship and a warm welcome to all women. We meet every second Tuesday of the month at Ashley Methodist Church, Wesleyan Road, TF9 4JT at 7.30pm.

Come along and see what we are all about - no obligation to join. We look forward to seeing you.
