It was the sixth egg roll at Warley Woods, and it has become a popular annual tradition at the Lightwoods Hill venue.

The main focus of the event was the egg roll down the meadow's long bank, otherwise known as the death run.

Visitors took with them their painted hard boiled eggs to join in the competitions which were divided up into different age ranges. There was the eight and under roll, the aged eight and over children's roll, and the adult competition.

Warley Woods Trust Manager Viv Cole said she was delighted with the turn out.

She said: "The adult competition also proved to be popular. Before we started the adult category, we could see parents wanting to get involved in the children's roll, so it was great that this time they had their own competition. Most of the snow had cleared, but those who had really good rolls, did see their eggs end up in the snow at the end of the run."

She added: "Afterwards everyone came back to the pavilion, where they could sit in the warm and have some refreshments."

There were also other Easter egg based activities including the the Easter quiz trail which saw clues lead youngsters through the woods to the pavilion and Easter based colouring activities.

Mrs Cole said: "It is wonderful way to get families out on a Bank Holiday, and we were lucky that even though it was cold it was dry."
