Birmingham's Commonwealth Games bid 'not fully compliant'
Birmingham's bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games was judged 'not fully compliant' by officials who have now extended the deadline for applications, according to reports.
The city had beat off competition from Liverpool to seal the nomination as Britain's candidate for the games.
The bid includes Sandwell lined up to host swimming and diving competitions and cycling due to take place on Cannock Chase.
Birmingham was the only bidder to submit an application before the deadline at the end of September.
Kuala Lumpur, in Malaysia, Victoria, in Canada and a Australian entry had been rumoured to be bidding but none came to fruition.
Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) president Louise Martin said interested parties should be given more time.
A new deadline of November 30 has now been set.
Miss Martin congratulated Birmingham on a "comprehensive proposal".
But she added: "We have carefully reviewed the bids and updates received as part of the ongoing 2022 candidate city process and have agreed - noting the challenging timescales and no fully compliant bid - that further time should be given to all interested parties to enable the submission of fully compliant proposals."
