After leading 26-5 at half-time, Stafford turned on the power in the second half to run in a further 66 unanswered points.

Shrewsbury put up some stern resistance during the opening half, but two tries from Nick Oxley and one each from Christian Ureche and Jerry Qasenivalu, plus three Ureche conversions, put Stafford in charge.

The visitors battled gamely after the break, but tired late on as Stafford’s relentless pressure took its toll.

The home side turned on the style to run in a further 10 tries through Ureche, Callum Jones (two), Carl Williams, Callum Hoy (two), Dan Mills, Louis Dewsbury and Tom Williams (two).

The victory saw Stafford hold on to second spot in the standings and sets them up nicely for their crunch clash at home to Wolverhampton when they return to league action on February 15.

Sixth-placed Walsall tasted defeat on the road as they went down 31-23 away to Moseley Oak.

Burntwood are still in the bottom two following a 52-17 loss at home to Longton.
