Hungry Wolves put the bite on Crewe

Wolverhampton reeled off a 14th straight league win as they continued their relentless march towards the Midlands Two West (North) title.

Crewe and Nantwich were the latest side to be swept aside by the Castlecroft outfit.

Wolves ran in nine tries to record a 55-27 success on home soil, but the result was marred by a knee injury to scrum-half Tom Jones.

Jones was set for a scan later this week to determine the full extent of the problem. Wolves have already seen Morgan Fereday ruled out of the run-in with a broken collarbone.

Luke Brough (two), Billy Price (two), Nathan Parker, Ben Guest, Adam Ellis, Andy Fereday and Jones were the men who touched down for Wolves, with Jones adding three conversions and Guest two.

And while forwards coach Ian Harley was pleased with some of the side’s attacking play, he wasn’t happy with the number of points conceded.

“Going forward we were fine,” said Harley. “We scored a few early tries, but then we switched off for a while.

“We were a bit disappointed with some of our defensive work. We need to be a little bit more disciplined and maintain our concentration levels.

“But it’s another bonus-point win, we scored nine tries and it’s another game ticked off.”
