Ryan Home runs in a treble as Wolves bite back

Wolverhampton’s forward coach, Ian Harley, was full of praise for the team after they emphatically bounced back from last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Leicester Forest.

“I was incredibly pleased with the lads,” said Harley. “They had worked hard in training all week. After the last couple of games, we wanted them to play more aggressive, be more physical.

“All the plaudits will go to our attacking play, but our defence deserves a mention, very rarely did Newcastle break the line.

“The two games, we have lost recently, we’ve been naive with the points that we’ve given away. They came from mistakes more than well-worked tries, but on Saturday we were strong defensively.”

Hat-trick hero Home was assisted by two Andy Fereday scores, and one each from Pete McMahon and Josh Humphreys as Wolverhampton ran riot.

“We started very brightly, and scored three tries in the opening 15 minutes,” said Harley.

“Newcastle didn’t have an answer to us. Our set-piece was brilliant.

“We’ve always had a reasonable scrum but on Saturday it was exceptional, shown by the push over try we scored through McMahon.

“As for Ryan (Home), one of his tries was 40 yards out. I didn’t know he was that fast! Usually he crosses from just a few metres.”

Next up for Wolves is a tough trip to leaders Camp Hill, but Harley is eyeing an upset.

“It’s going to be an incredibly tough game,” said Harley. “They’re probably the strongest team in the league.

“It’s not do or die, because of how early on in the season we are, but if we were to win away at Camp Hill, it would be a huge statement to the rest of the league.”
