RUGBY UNION: Stourbridge fell to defeat for the first time this season after a lack of discipline meant they lost a close game at home to Hull.

Both sides went into the game undefeated in their first two fixtures of the season.

The recently-promoted visitors had won one and drawn one, while Stourbridge had come out victorious in both games against Loughborough Students and Luctonians in National Two North.

A try from Jack Lea and conversion from Chris Scott looked to set Stourbridge on their way as they went in search of their third victory in as many games.

Hull’s Latu Makaafi pulled a try back, but the conversion was missed. However, Hull went into the break 8-7 up after a penalty earned them three points.

In the second 40 minutes, a Dan Rundle try under the posts for Stourbridge, again converted by Scott, was answered by a Reece Dean try for Hull.

The difference between the two evenly-matched sides came in the discipline, with the hosts making several infringements.

And it paid dividends in the final 15 minutes of the game as the boot of fly-half Simon Humberstone earned Hull the win with penalties in the 64th and 74th minutes.

Stourbridge sit in fifth place in the league on 11 points, one place behind Hull.
