The second annual West Midlands Open takes place at Allens Sports Bar, on Newhall Street, next Monday with big rewards on offer.

The money that will go to the outright winner is the same as a semi-finalist would get for a UK Open qualifier in the PDC, writes Craig Birch.

Players from that organisation and the BDO are expected to compete, including Tipton's own Jamie Hughes who reached the quarter-finals 12 months ago.

Cash was paid all the way down to the last 16, where the losers gained £75 with £100 for a run to the quarters and £250 for reaching the final four.

The 2015 final was contested between PDC prospects David Pallett and Michael Smith. Pallett prevailed by 5-0 whitewash to win £2,500, while Smith got £1,000 for second place.

The PDC's Wayne Jones, from Wolverhampton, and former BDO world champion Mark Webster bowed out in the semis.

Pallett also won a replica trophy, with his name enshrined into the original which remains on display at the venue.

A competitive field is expected again on the 16 playing boards, plus practice areas. A first-to-five legs format will be used. John Fowler and Tracey Edgecombe will compere the event.

Spectators also turned out in their droves last August with around 1,000 people attending, 200 of them watching the decider.

The main stage will be used for the latter stages of the competition, which costs £10 to enter on the day and £8 in advance.

Registration is from 10am, with darters toeing the oche from 12pm. For more information, e-mail allenssportsbar@hotmail.co.uk or call either 0121 557 9223 or 07812 096 936.
