The Lakeside 2016 semi-finalist went all of the way at the Intercontinental Hotel in Bucharest to claim his sixth BDO ranking title, counting this one twice.

Hughes' form gradually rose over the weekend and he was imperious in the final, dropping just a leg in a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Alan Bell, writes Craig Birch.

'Yozza' snapped into gear from the semi-finals, after opening his challenge with a 4-0 whitewash of Mamix de Beer.

The 29-year-old then overcame another worlds semi-finalist in Chris Mason, a fellow West Midlands resident who lives in Hednesford. Hughes rolled over him 4-1.

Matt Dickinson was then vanquished 4-2 to set up a semi-final against Krzysztof Ratajski, which was arguably his best display.

The Black Country thrower landed two 180s and averaged 91, momentum he took into the decider after winning 5-1. Hughes is currently ranked fourth by the BDO.
