Stafford’s Coopers Park was the venue for a Covid compliant competition played under England Touch Association rules.

Teams from Camp Hill, Cannock, Lichfield, a Midlands Barbarians outfit joined two sides from the host club Stafford – the Bull Terriers and Pit Bulls.

And it was the Terriers who proved to be the strongest outfit on the day as they ended with a perfect record of five wins from five games.

Lichfield claimed the runners-up spot after picking up three wins and a draw.

Stafford are keen to promote touch rugby, offering a number of sessions throughout the week.

New players are always welcome. The club runs four different mixed gender sessions.

They hold junior sessions for ages 10-14 on Monday evenings while on Wednesday afternoons there is walking touch rugby for those after a competitive game at a more sedate pace.

And on Wednesday nights, a social touch session is played under a relaxed version of the O2 rules which is ideal for new starters or those just wanting some additional exercise.

Meanwhile, Stafford’s under-16s tasted victory in their second game following the return to contact matches under phase D2 of the RFU Roadmap.

Telford were the visitors and Stafford were forced to hit the comeback trail to secure the win.

Two tries saw Telford lead 10-0 but Stafford then rallied and took advantage of their visitors being reduced to 14 men.

Archie Bent was sharp enough to dive over from close range for a try with Max Jones added the conversion.

Joel Bevans then secured a 12-10 success with a try from the final play of the game.
