Wolverhampton Casuals boss is hoping for a promotion party

As part of the restructure of the non-league pyramid three sides could be promoted from West Midlands League Premier Division up into step five.

A points per game formula has been used to decided the top three using results from the 2019-20 campaign and the season just gone – both of which were curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And after coming out third in the standings behind Shifnal Town and Bewdley Town, Cassies have applied to the FA for promotion.

“We have had all the paperwork for the application and that has been done, so as long as we pass that process it looks like we will be promoted,” said Pearce.

We don’t know into which league yet, we have a rough idea.

“We have seen the criteria and can’t see anything that is going to trip us up. Our facilities are as good as the majority of the sides in the Midland League.

“But we are not getting party-poppers out just yet until it is officially in writing. We should know around May 17.”

Pearce, along with No.2 Steve Taylor and coaches Grant Winwood and Earl Grant, took charge at Cassies last summer after Dean Gill moved on to Bilston Town.

And Pearce is keen to acknowledge the part played by Gill in putting the club in the promotion picture.

“The previous manager, Dean Gill, needs a huge, hug amount of credit because 75 per cent of the work, results wise, was done by him and his staff.

“I’m glad those results were used from last season because it means we have had a hand in keeping us in the promotion places

“We had to completely rebuild the side after Dean left because the players went with him, but after a slow start we had got ourselves on a good run when the season was brought to an end. If we had come in and done terrible then we wouldn’t be in a position to go up.”
