Agnello makes an instant impact to keep United’s title dream alive

New-boy Tony Agnello stole the show, notching an impressive debut treble, as CTS (Coseley, Tipton, Sedgley) hit their latest Concentric Sales & Lettings Western opponents for six with three goals either side of the break.

United, who have games in hand on all their main challengers, need to win their remaining three matches if they are to claim their second successive league crown.

Their latest three-point haul was secured thanks to further efforts from Owen Harris (two) and Tristan Pritchard, with Scott Pearson hitting Sporting’s sole response.

Woodside Inn and Sedgley Sporting (whose latest fixture against Sedgley Rangers was postponed this week) are still very much in contention for silverware and have one and two fixtures respectively to complete.

Woodside emerged impressive 9-1 victors over visiting AFC Sporting Gornal as Shawn Devonport inflicted most damage with an excellent five-goal return. He received good support from Adam West (two), Joe Lawley and Joe Colley, with Nick Green netting Sporting’s consolation.

Two teams rounding off their fixtures with victories were third-placed Blades FC and Netherton Tigers (fifth). Both have enjoyed good first seasons with the league and finished for 7-0 and 6-1 wins over FC Premier 2014 and Coseley FC respectively.

Blades, who had raced into a 4-0 interval lead, had Dan Hadley and Todd Ferrier grabbing hat-tricks, while Jack Hill added a seventh. The Tigers eased to a 4-0 triumph at basement side Coseley, with goals from Curt Freeman (two), Liam Hickman and Dean Powers.

There was also a sixth league success for Dudley Rangers, who beat Wrens Nest Rangers 6-1. On the mark for Dudley were Sam Collier (two), Albie Turner, Alex Cameron, Ollie Hartland and Joel Collins. The sole Wrens Nest reply came from Rhys Webb.

In the Paycare Eastern section, Claregate Park Rangers, who have a far superior goal difference, have secured their third successive Beacon title without kicking a ball!

With one game remaining, away to Compton FC this weekend, Claregate saw the chasing pair of FC Premier U21s and AFC Bloxwich, both six points down, suffer defeats in their penultimate games.

As a result,Trysull Athletic will take second spot after completing their programme with a 5-2 away success at FC Premier. Trysull made it seven wins in nine thanks to goals from Dan Hickman (two), Will Spruce, Dom Constable and Jordan Darby. The Premier replies were both claimed by Gianni Singh.

East Park bagged a third successive victory, coming from behind to sink AFC Bloxwich 3-2. The former trailed twice in a keenly contested first half to reach the break on level terms.

Midway through the second period, two-goal Demetrius Daley hit the eventual winner for Park, who also had Andrew Turvey finding the target. Luke Oakley and Reece Berry replied for Bloxwich.

There were also big celebrations in the Bushbury Hill camp as the Beacon newcomers chalked up their first league success, and climbed off the bottom perch, with a resounding 6-0 away win at Wyrley Colts.

Kash Kahn grabbed the limelight for Bushbury with a treble, while Matthew Davies, Charlie Russell and Owen Hill made it six of the best.

Ryan Basra was a two-goal star as Compton pushed for top half finish, running out 3-1 winners at Black Country Fusion Development.
