King urges Tivi to keep cool as race heats up

Dave KING has urged Tividale to hold their nerve as they look to hold-off the chasing pack in a tightening West Midlands Premier title race.

Tivi, who have topped the table since mid-September, go to struggling Pershore Town tomorrow aiming for a win which would take them another step closer to promotion.

King’s men still hold a seven-point lead over second-placed Haughmond, though they have played two games more than their rivals and the climax to the campaign is threatening to be far more dramatic than expected.

The boss said: “We have to keep our nerve a bit. All we can do is take things one game at a time.

“The eight fixtures we have left are OK for us. But we know the teams at the wrong end of the table will be fighting for the points just as much as we are.

“We have to make sure we keep doing what we have done all season.”

Tivi returned from a near three-week break to draw 1-1 with Malvern last weekend.

“It was a tough fixture to come back to and the draw was fair,” said King. “We’ve just got to concentrate on ourselves now and nobody else.

“It’s in our own hands and that is all you can really ask for.”

Wolves Casuals, who sit eight points behind the leaders in third having played the same number of games, host Hereford Lads Club tomorrow. Fourth-placed Wednesfield go to Smethwick Rangers.

At the other end of the table, Dudley Sports will aim for precious points when they visit Shifnal Town.
