Title-chasers Tividale and Wolverhampton Sporting content with a share of spoils

Tivi are third after the stalemate at The Beeches, while Sporting are fourth.

They both have a significant number of games in hand on the top two and are expected to be battle it out for promotion.

Tom Hill’s emphatic volley put Sporting in front before Demetri Brown’s last-gasp leveller for the hosts.

Tivi boss Dave King was delighted with the 89th-minute equaliser, and said: “Very pleased with the equaliser. I think a draw was a fair result.

“Neither team really did enough to win it – we shaded the first half, they shaded the second half.

“Both teams, I think, can play better. I don’t know whether it was the occasion.

“Scoring so late, though, to get the point feels great.”

Tivi have impressed following back-to-back relegations.

They are four points off table-toppers Malvern Town, with four games in hand.

“There’s so much football left. It could go right down to the wire,” said King.

“We’d be really pleased. We’ve done so well so far this season.”

Sporting are nine points off Malvern, with seven games in hand.

In the wake of exiting the FA Vase in the fifth round, they are firmly focused on clinching the league crown.

Boss Andy Paddock was ‘disappointed, but not gutted’ with the draw.

“Demetri Dunkley missed an easy chance in the first half for us and we had a goal disallowed as well,” he said.

“The lads came in at half-time saying they felt pretty comfortable.

“I ripped into them a bit, though, as I didn’t feel we were at the same level as usual.

“We came out for the second half then and dominated, really. We got our noses in front and they equalised with the only real chance they had.

“I said to the lads that they needed to beat us more than we needed to beat them.

“I’m disappointed with the result, but not gutted.”

Paddock’s attention moves away from the league tomorrow night as Sporting host Walsall in the quarter-finals of the Staffordshire Senior Cup (kick-off 7.45pm).

“There’s a lot of football to be played and we’ll move on to the next game, against Walsall,” said Paddock.

“We’ll make some changes for that game, really use the squad.”

One player who will not be involved is new signing Colin Smith, who is cup-tied.

Sporting have snapped up the attacker from Smethwick, and Paddock added: “He’s a good lad.

“I tried to sign him a few years ago so I’m glad we’ve got him now.

“He’s another good addition. He’s ineligible for tomorrow but he’ll be looking to be involved at the weekend.”

Smith’s old side Smethwick lost 1-0 at Ellesmere Rangers on Saturday.

They will be hoping to bounce back as they go to Bilston Town – who lost 2-1 at Wolverhampton Casuals – tonight (kick-off 7.45pm). Also tonight, Dudley Sports go up against Pegasus Juniors. Bewdley Town face Wellington Amateurs.

At the weekend, Wednesfield gave their hopes of finishing in the top six a boost as they won 4-1 at Dudley Sports. They are currently seventh.

Second-placed Black Country Rangers drew 1-1 with struggling Stone Old Alleynians. Bewdley lost 1-0 at Wellington.
