While Kyle Edmund was sealing victory for Great Britain in the Davis Cup, members at the Prestwood Drive-based club took to the courts in scorching temperatures.

The mixed tournament took the form of an American style event, with qualifying rounds run on a round robin basis, ensuring that each pair played a short set against all other pairings.

Each match was the best of eight games, with each pair playing six matches.

With the sun beating down, and some high quality tennis played, the players all competed over a three-hour period for a place in the one-set final.

It was Hughes and Armstrong who came out on top of a keenly-contested showdown against Shaun Ryder and Chris Armstrong, winning 7-6 in a deciding tie break.

Chairman John Cutler was delighted with how the event went as the action continues to come thick and fast.

Cutler said: "The Jubilee tournament is a mixed tournament, and is open to all members to take part.

"The weather was kind to us, and all the players very much enjoyed competing in the event."

Wollaston run four men's teams and four ladies' sides as well as staging a number of in-house competitions at their impressive base.

"It boasts eight floodlit tennis courts (six artificial grass and two artificial clay) and a clubhouse with function room and bar.

Cutler added: "This is another busy year for the club. We have mens, ladies and mixed teams playing matches in the local leagues.

"We also run a number of tournaments within the club. In addition, our club championships qualifying rounds have just started."

The club will also host children from Belarus as part of a Chernobyl Children's Lifeline visit in two weeks' time.
