Stour power keeps them in the frame

Stourbridge secured an impressive National League Two North win against Tynedale to keep their eyes set firmly on a place in the top three.

After a slow start, they had too much power for the lowly visitors and ran out 39-11 winners.

Jack Harrison broke through Stour's defences to set up a try in the corner for winger Ben Duncan.

Through a set of forward drives, Toby Handley pulled in the cover and left Rod Petty with a stroll-in to hit back.

Tynedale scored with two penalty kicks, but Stour seized the lead when flanker Nigel Mukarati barged over from short range.

Joe Carpenter blasted through the Tynedale defence to go over and added another just before half-time.

Bill Harding's second-half break produced Mukarati's second try, before Ash Elvers added another score.

Replacement Joe Bridger rounded off the scoring late on for Stour, who climbed to fourth and travel to Chester on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Old Halesonians slipped to a narrow defeat in their top-of-the-table clash in National League Three Midlands at Hinckley.

The hosts ran out 20-17 winners and the result sees Hales remain in second place, 10 points behind the leaders, who boast a 10 wins from 10 record.

The Old Boys welcome Lichfield on Saturday in a bid to return to winning ways.

Lichfield slipped to their third defeat on the bounce as they lost out 18-15 at home to Nuneaton. They slip down to seventh place.

In the Midlands One West, out-of-sorts Walsall fell to a 40-14 against Worcester Wanderers.

The rock-bottom side have just one win in the league this season and have a real fight on their hands to turn their season around. They welcome fifth-placed Whitchurch on Saturday.

Dudley Kingswinford played out an entertaining 16-16 draw, with Hereford as ninth faced seventh. They travel to Kenilworth, five points above them in eighth, on Saturday.

In Midlands Two West, Kidderminster's brave display against leaders Moseley Oak was not enough to avoid a 32-7 defeat. They go to Old Saltlenians on Saturday.

Stourbridge Lions lost out 29-18 in their derby at Wolverhampton.

In Midlands Three West, Burntwood came out narrow 24-22 winners against Edwardians. Bloxwich fell to a 38-32 defeat against Ludlow and Cannock edged Eccleshall 12-10.

Wednesbury suffered a harrowing 43-0 defeat at home to Newcastle, while Willenhall lost 38-0 to leaders Tamworth.

Aldridge edged out 10-7 winners in their derby against Rugeley in the Midlands Four West.

Essington made it seven wins from seven with a 22-0 win over Chaddesley Corbett in the Midlands Five West.
