A stylish way to mark a centenary for golf club
Plus fours, knickerbockers and flat caps were the order of the day as a Sandwell golf club celebrated a special birthday.
Warley Woods Golf club in Bearwood held a celebratory event to mark 100 years of the course being open to the public to play on.
Members were invited to dress in period clothing, including traditional plus fours, patterned jumpers and 1920s flat caps, as part of a team competition held to celebrate the centenary.
Club secretary Anne Hornsby was one of those dressed up for the day and detailed the history of the course.
She said: "The course was the first municipal course in Birmingham and was founded on the old Edgbaston Golf Club in 1896, which had its course here.
"There was a point where leases expired and the city council felt there was an opportune time to create a municipal course, which led to this new course being opened to the public on May 4, 1921."
"Both the gentlemen's and ladies sections are having a round today to commemorate this great achievement that we were the first municipal course in Birmingham and it's still going strong after 100 years."
The competition on the day featured teams of four trying to get 100 points, using the Stableford scoring system, which involves scoring points based on the number of strokes taken at each hole.
Mrs Hornsby said all members had been asked to dress in 1920s attire for the day, with hints and tips on what to wear and where to get parts of the outfits from provided.
It saw an array of colourful costumes on display and formed a weekend of celebrations of the cenetenary, an achievement Mrs Hornsby said was an amazing one.

She said: "It really is amazing that the club is still going after 100 years and showcases a sport which is multi-generational and suits all ages and abilities.
"It also shows that Warley Woods is affordable, inclusive and everyone is made to feel very welcome here.
"I think the pioneers of 1921 had the same vision and wanted a course that would be open to anyone, so this means a lot to us."
