Having only just made the cut, a five-under-par 67 in the third round had left Rai in with a chance of a top-20 finish at the Jumeirah Golf Estates.

But despite picking up another shot at the first, the 25-year-old experienced a quiet final day, claiming just one more birdie and making two bogeys for a level par 72 to leave him 10-under overall. Rai now sits sixth in the Race to Dubai standings.

Staffordshire’s Robert Rock was one shot further ahead in joint-45th after following up a third round 68 with a final round of 69.

His day was far more eventful as, after reaching the turn at one-over, he birdied five of the next eight holes before bogeying the last.

By far the biggest drama took place at the top of the leaderboard where Nuneaton’s Andy Sullivan saw a three-shot lead evaporate as France’s Antoine Rozner claimed victory on 25-under par.

Sullivan, who shot 61 on the opening day, was unable to hold off Rozner’s late charge, carding 70 to finish joint second with three other players.
