Derby County made a formal approach for then manager John Eustace during Wolves' 2-0 FA Cup win at Ewood Park on Sunday.
Blackburn then released an official statement expressing their disspointent following Eustace's wish to leave the Championship high-flyers.
And former Wolves boss Gary O'Neil currently leads the betting to take the reins at the Lancashire club.
O'Neil was sacked by Wolves last December following a 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich Town.
With only two league wins all season and the club languishing in the bottom three, O'Neil was relieved of his duties and replaced by Vitor Pereira.
Former player Rob Edwards joins O'Neil at the top of the betting market having parted company with Luton last month.
