Having lost their previous home game, and general league form being mixed, United boss Jose Mourinho found himself under increasing pressure ahead of this Premier League clash against newly promoted Wolves.

Wolves on the other hand started off their league campaign in impressive fashion, collecting seven points from their first five league games.

Wolves certainly made their presence felt at Old Trafford, with Ryan Bennett narrowly heading over the bar in the early stages.

However the hosts made the breakthrough on 18 minutes when new Brazilian signing Fred fired past Rui Patricio.

Wolves continued to impose their game on the Premier League giants though and deservedly equalised through Joao Moutinho shortly into the second period.

The Portuguese maestro sent an impressive strike into the top corner of David De Gea's net and sent the travelling fans into delirium.

Despite United dominating possession in the closing stages, Wolves could have won this clash, with late chances falling to summer signing Adama Traore.

It ended all square, with Wolves collecting a very credible and hard fought point.

The two sides found themselves at opposite ends of the table in this memorable encounter.

With Wolves at the foot of the table, facing an unbeaten United side at the summit of the Premier League appeared to be a daunting prospect.

Their task wasn't helped when Nani handed the visitors a lead in the first few minutes with a ferocious effort past Wayne Hennessey.

Despite an early onslaught from Alex Ferguson's side, Wolves eventually settled into the game and began to impose themselves on the league leaders.

A response came as early as the 10th minute when fans favourite George Elokobi headed past Edwin Van der Sar to level matters up.

Unbelievably, Wolves took the lead shortly before the break when striker Kevin Doyle glanced in a free kick, sending Molineux into ecstasy.

Despite inevitable second half pressure, Wolves held firm to claim a famous top flight victory.

United's undefeated season was over, and Wolves began to mount a survival bid going into the final few months of the season.

Wolves' first campaign back in the top flight after a 19-year absence was not quite going to plan.

Nineteenth in the table with a home clash against league leaders Manchester United, Wolves fans had many reasons to be fearing the worst.

With the likes of Ruud Van Nistlerooy, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Scholes and Roy Keane in opposition, the chance of victory appeared to be verging on impossible, however Wolves were ready to defy all the odds and find an extra gear.

Ruud Van Nistlerooy, predictably, was the major threat as Wolves were forced to mount a lengthy rearguard action.

Wolves keeper Michael Oakes was in fine form too, denying United on several occasions, most notably in the second period from Scholes.

United boss Alex Ferguson was stung into action, sending on Diego Forlan and David Bellion.

Oakes once again did fantastically well when saving from Bellion.

Despite relentless pressure, Wolves held on for victory, sparking scenes of mass celebration inside Molineux at the final whistle.
